Process of elimination

I try to think of words to use
To try and calm her down
Words fly back and forth
But nothing seems to work
Time and time again we fight
Finding faults and problems
Procrastinating with every breath
But nothing seems to work.
I know my presence is the problem
But leaving would make it worse
The silence is my own worst enemy
But nothing seems to work
Perhaps I should consider other options
A walk to calm myself,
Be alone with my thoughts
But nothing seems to work.
I think up a way to make her smile,
Jokes don’t sit well at times like this
My humour was the only thing I had
But nothing seems to work
I act on instinct
Avoid eye contact
Say I’m sorry
But nothing seems to work
Transparent as this seems,
Inevitably I know how this will end,
The only way it will work.
Like all the others before,
One day eventually...
I will face elimination
